Physical Therapy Rehabilitation Centers

Dorothy Said:

Is a Career in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation/ Physiatrist for me?

We Answered:

As a physiatrist, you really won't be doing any of the hands on rehabilitation...only medical management of the conditions in question. At best, you might do some hands on procedures such as trigger point injections, etc.

If you want to oversee the program, but not actually do the rehabilitation, then yes, physiatry may be for you. You certainly can see all sorts of different types of patients, but most physiatrists focus in one or two areas of care: inpatient vs. outpatient orthopedics vs. neurology

Carl Said:

What position would look better on a resume?

We Answered:

I would do the Autistic kids one of you plan on going into OT. The only reason I say this is because it is harder to find specialty areas to volunteer in such as the autistic one than the rehab one. So having this on your resume would look very good.

Nursing...hmm I would guess that either one could look great on a resume

Lena Said:

Which volunteer opportunity is better out of these two?

We Answered:

Since you have already volunteered at the autism center you should try the other one. It would be a completely different experience and might help you decide what type of occupational and physical therapy you would like to go into.
