Physical Therapy Rehabilitation

Carl Said:

Chiropractor vs physical therapy, which is best?

We Answered:

There is much disagreement about both the effectiveness and risks involved with chiropractic treatment. In my opinion, it is the only thing that should needs to be said about chiropractic adjustment:

A chiropractor cannot “cure” your condition or any other-- at best, they would just make your muscles feel better. It would be best to first see your doctor—a real physician—and be referred to a physical therapist or an orthopedic specialist. I would advise that your do everything you can to avoid chiropractic treatment, as it will often do more harm than good.

Chiropractors have to believe that everything causes conditions that only they can fix so they can convince patients that we can't live comfortably without visits twice per week.

I had a stroke last year as a result of chiropractic treatment and have since made it a priority to raise awareness of the dangers of chiropractic care. I ask that anyone going to visit a chiropractor to be aware of the risks and make an informed decision about treatment.

Although the chiropractic community will argue that I don’t have a degree and I don’t know what I am talking about, I only want to make sure people considering chiropractic treatment that there are risks. I have nothing to gain from this. Can chiropractors say the same? Make sure you get both sides of the story!

Robert Said:

Please help me find a list of physical rehabilitation centers near Rome, Italy.?

We Answered:

"Physical rehabilitation" is quite a broad term. You should specify what kind of injury and/or disability you are troubled with.

In my opinion you should contact your "medico di famiglia" (family doctor), the one you chose when you applied for your "tessera sanitaria", which could give you a referral for a specialist center to get a cycle of therapy prescribed. Lots of family doctors in Italy do understand english, so it must not be that difficult to get this done.

Alicia Said:

What is the scope of PhD in Neuro-rehabilitation after one has a degree in Physical therapy?

We Answered:

It depends on what you want to do with it. There is a need for PhD trained faculty for PT. So if you want to do research or teach, it would be benificial. Other than that it is for personal enrichment. In regular clinical practice, you will not make anymore money per se but you will certainly be more skilled in neuro rehab.

Anita Said:

Can anyone tell me the uses and applications of accelerometer in physical and rehabilitation therapies?

We Answered:

Generally...probably non existant. It may be useful in research methods to measure rate of motion such as in reaction to disturbances in balance, etc or to track movement throught the day, etc.

Yet is probably has no practical day to day use in the clinic.

Been in the clinic for seven years and I have never used one.

CAN I GET INTO PHYSICAL THERAPY SCHOOL WITH A BS IN REHABILITATION SERVICES?

We Answered:

As long as you get the prerequisite courses you need, this will be fine. Most likely, this is a "feeder" major that allows students hoping to go into PT, OT or SLP to get the undergraduate work they need.

Vanessa Said:

My mom is coming home from being in the hospital. What kind of physical therapy should she receive? ?

We Answered:

I would arrange for her to receive home health services. Then they can show you what types of things are realistic for her to do on her own or with your assistance if she qualifies for this service.
