Physical Therapy Requirements

Gilbert Said:

How long will it take to become a Physical Therapy Assistant? What are the requirements or qualifications?

We Answered:

The Physical Therapist Assistant
Physical Therapist Assistants, or PTAs, are skilled health care providers who work under the supervision of a physical therapist. PTAs perform a variety of roles in the health care delivery system. They assist physical therapists in implementing treatment programs; train patients in exercises and activities of daily living; conduct treatments and report patients' responses to physical therapists. PTAs must complete a 2-year education program, usually offered through a community or junior college. Graduates receive an Associate's degree and must pass a state licensure exam.

Melissa Said:

What is the requirement for physical therapy assistants in high school?

We Answered:

First visit www.apta.org. Go under the education tab and learn about the profession. As far as education, you need to learn to study. Take math and bio. Apply to a community college that is accredited for PTA. There is a list on the above websites.

Wayne Said:

Physical therapy aide requirements?

We Answered:

I think you are confusing an aide with a physical therapist assistant. As an aide, you do not need any formal training. However, as a physical therapist assistant, you must have graduated from a PTA program. You would need to take the two year PTA program. The program you were looking into is for an aide training program. As Mary said, it's a scam and a waste of money.

Alfred Said:

What should I major in if I want to go to physical therapy school?

We Answered:

Hey lala, I wish you would have put down what state you were in.

So, I can only tell you what is required for admissions to a school of medicine in this profession for the state of California.

For example, this one is for UCSF where I went. (University of California, San Francisco)

Required Prerequisites are:
General Inorganic Chemistry, with laboratory (1 year)
General Physics, with laboratory (1 year)
Human or Comparative Anatomy with laboratory
Human Physiology with laboratory
Cell Biology or Vertebrate Histology or Microbiology
Abnormal Psychology
Introduction to Statistics
Neurosciences/Neuroanatomy (1 year recommended)
Organic Chemistry
Kinesiology
Exercise Physiology
Motor Learning or Motor Control
Biomedical Ethics
Developmental Psychology or Motor Development
Introduction to Computers

So, as to the other part of your question, it kind of does not make sense. If you look at all of these prerequisites (Which all of these prerequisites have prerequisites) You do not have time to do both biotechnology (Which in itself has....Prerequisites on top of prerequisites) and physical therapy at the same time. So, you need to decide what your goal is and focus on that and that alone.

You can already see the years of prerequisites. that you have to do before you can even apply to a school of medicine. If this is what you want to do, then you need to start thumping out the prerequisites. one by one as many as you can handle at a time.

Well, I hope I helped and not discouraged you instead. Much good luck to you lala!

What are the requirements to get into Marquette for physical therapy?

We Answered:

Marquette usually gets about 1,000 applications to it's direct admit (freshman admit) track, but they take about 62. Applicants are usually in the top 7% of their class, average SAT score is 1,266 and ACT 29.7. They make no mention of GPA, but i would imagine it's around 3.5.
