Physical Therapy Terminology

Dorothy Said:

I have a 1.8 GPA and I'm going to a community college. How can I pick it up?

We Answered:

Usually to be in a PTA program, you need at least a 2.5. But in some areas of the country there are waiting list for the PTA program and you would need harder than that. You may not need math but you will need the analytical knowledge from math. My neice is going to PTA next year . She was a little mad that she took college level pre calc as a senior and did not need it but is she chooses to go on, she has the proper math backround.

Even though PTA is an AAS degree, it is very difficult. It amazes me what they learn in two years.

Physical Therapy, Admissions/Prereq help, evaluate my chances?

We Answered:

Well, you've gotten some Cs in some of the core classes including stats, physiology and cellular biology. Have you calculated your prereq GPA? We used to say if you had any Cs you were out...however, it's not as competitive as it was 13 years ago. Yet, I think you need to consider your prereq GPA which will be more closely monitored.

If not high enough, consider retaking some of these classes.

Good luck

Occupational Therapy Assistant?

We Answered:

OT Asst's aren't too tough to get, it's the full blown OT that gets hard. I don't think there's a huge need for math, but there is for anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, and probably the rest of the ology's.

Alfred Said:

Can I get in physical therapy school?

We Answered:

Your chances are fair to good. A good GRE score would be a bonus...your athletic experience will be a plus as well...but you are not a "shoe-in"...make sure you apply to numerous schools.

Douglas Said:

What professions work in a medical setting using arts and crafts as physical therapy?

We Answered:

Yes, in addition to Recreational Therapist, there is a Play Therapist in a Childrens Hospital and all sorts of opportunities in a Board & Care, Assisted Living Facility. ANd Occupational Therapy, which teaches more about how to cope with the ADL--activities of daily living might be a crareer for you as well. There are also special needs camps for youngsters with leukemia, autism, downs etc and could use your skills as well. :)
