Hey- I'm an occupational therapist and I am totally bummed to hear you don't have a program in your area. It's such a great and rewarding field. It sounds corny, but I have never left a day of working not thinking I didn't love my job.

Why are you limiting yourself to your area and an Associates degree? You could enter a BS/MS program for OT and graduate within a few years and be an OTR instead of an OTA. You already have 2 years under your belt and the pay difference is pretty significant. If you really don't want to leave your area, perhaps you could look into a bachelor's of social work or a degree in art therapy. I personally would not recommend a degree in recreational therapy- it crosses on too many other professions toes and it isn't very well defined making it hard to find a job.

From what I understand, it's similar to Graston technique. It uses a variety of plastic instruments that look like little scrapers as they kind of "scrape" it along the tissues to supposedly regenerate the healing process of dysfunctional tissue due to problems such as tendonitis.

I have to tell you that I am very skeptical of any technique that REQUIRES one to be "certified" to say that use a trademarked name such as Graston or ASTYM...especially if that certifying agency has proprietary rights to both the education and equipment used to perform it.

I can tell you that I have read the research on the ASTYM website. It is poor, and it's dispicable that they consider this an "evidence based" treatment. At this stage, they've had a few animal model/molecular level studies but only a few human "case studies" which are the lowest form of credible research. They still need to do larger, double blind, randomized controlled trials to give this technique more credibility. Nothing about the studies they post make this a definitive solution.

I would only consider Graston or ASTYM if you've done traditional therapy and even cold laser without any results.

From what i understand, it's quite a painful treatment. Their ideas behind stimulating tissue repair DO have some solid basis in science, but there are other ways of establishing it as well.

well the 3rd answerer missed a thing.in super Mario galaxy there are 3 mini-games where u have to move the remote sideways in order to move and may end up in total frustration because u will always fall.

now answering ur question there is a wii game which is good for physical movement and that is Wii Fit.where u have to move left or right to do what the game instructed[see more on youtube].but this is not really ideal for someone with a physical limitation.why not try wii play?it uses physical movement [mostly with hand] and i think that that would be good
