Pre Physical Therapy

Eileen Said:

What job can I get with a Pre-Physical Therapy degree?

We Answered:

Honestly, not much. You should have a back up plan if you do not get into PT school...consider, perhaps reapplying the next year or consider speech language pathology, or other graduate programs that may interest you.

Annie Said:

Can I do anything with a pre-physical therapy major without grad school?

We Answered:

With a kinesiology degree, the best chances for a job are working in some type of motion lab...something hard to come by unless you live in a major metropolitin area or in a place where a university is doing research.

Other considerations would be going back to complete your teaching certificate in phys ed.

The pre-physical therapy program was really meant to prep you for a graduate degree.

Mildred Said:

Will graduating with a major in pre-physical therapy still mean my degree would be a bachelor's?

We Answered:

It depends on the structure of the program to which to apply. If the "pre-PT" is offered as a "degree program," you will complete your BS in "pre-PT" and they apply to graduate school which is typically another three years for about 7 years total...you would not need to complete another BS on top of the "pre-PT" degree...you could go righ to graduate school.

In some schools, especially those who culiminate in a master's degree or for those where it is a "direct admit program," "pre-PT" is your undergraduate track and you complete 3 years in the pre-professional phase and then enter then professional phase as a senior. Some schools will award a "health sciences" BS degree after that first year in the program, but you then continue your professional educaiton for another 2 years for 6 years total.
