Requirements For Physical Therapy School

Ricardo Said:

Physical Therapy School?

We Answered:

Easy depends on your perception...but in general...they all require a certain GPA on your prerequistie courses. Mostly 3.0 on 4.0 scale...some schools may be less (Northwestern at 2.5/4.0), but then again those schools are usually highly competitive in the first place. Entrance is generally very competitive, yet enrollment in the past 3 or 4 has generally been down...theoretically making it easier to get due to less competition.

GPA is only one requirement, and many require both a writing sample and a personal interview.

Historically speaking, admission rate is generally between 10-20% of those applicants who meet the minimum requirements. In otherwords, if you "just meet the standards" you may find it quite difficult to be accepted.

However, there are still a few programs that offer direct admittance...in otherwords, one is accepted as a freshman and garaunteed admittance into the professional phase of the program, as long as your GPA is maintained at a certain level. Marquette and Ithaca are such programs.

Probably the "easiest" program to enter would be one who has a low application rate per number of seats. The best thing to do would be to call the schools you are intersted in and ask them what their average application rate is and how many seats are available in the program.

Go to www.apta.org and go to the education section where you can obtain a list of accredited PT programs with a link to the school.
