Phillip Said:

I need to see the 2001 board exam result in physical therapy in the philippines.?

We Answered:

www.prc.gov.ph

The site's been crashing recently though due to the sheer bulk of Nursing board test takers accessing the site. Try accessing it now while they're busy taking the exams, or a few days after the Nursing boards results have been released.

Alicia Said:

what made you pursue into your career of physical therapy?

We Answered:

My mom's friend is a physical therapist and my mom is a physician...... My moms friend told me that she loves her job because you get to work with people young and old and if your good enough with pro athletes.... She said that its the love for making people better and to she people improve their health over a period of time so yea if you like helping people and you like a pretty good pay ( $75,000+) yea then it is for you

Good Luck....

How long will it take to see physical results if I only eat 500 cals a day?

We Answered:

You will most likely drop some pounds quickly at first but it will be mostly muscle and then very soon after that your body will go into starvation mode and you will hit a weight loss plateau. Your metabolism slows way down. You have to eat enough calories for your body not to go into starvation mode and to keep your metabolism stable. It actually speeds up your metabolism if you eat often (but healthy and proper portions) and exercise. Find out what your BMR (basal metabolic rate) is. The amount of calories your body needs just for your organs to work properly. If you layed in bed all day you would still need this amount of calories to maintain. You burn calories even when you sleep so 500 cals a day is not going to do anything positive. Try to stay around atleast 1200. If you go to this website www.caloriecount.com you can figure out the answer to any question you might have.

Meniscus tear: Anyone had success with just physical therapy?

We Answered:

I really hate seeing people for this because I can never give them a good prognosis as to who will do well and who will require surgery. The evidence out there for PT for a meniscal tear is very grey. Some people will get better, and some won't, but no one can really say why...espcecially because PT targets the muscular system and flexibility...of which the meniscus has no function.

At the very least, the knee society has found that those with tears greater than 7mm usually do not get better with physical therapy.

...some will get better and some won't and that's the best we can say right now.

Good luck.

Will Physical Therapy help a reverse curvature in my cervical spine?

We Answered:

There are a lot of points to consider here including:

1. Is the site of curvature a site of fusion (you didn't say if you had a fusion or laminectomy). If fused at that site, nothing will change the position here because it cannot move.

2. Is the reverse curvature in your neck relavent? Often diagnosed by x-ray as "a loss of lordosis" in the cervical spine, it's relavence varies between cases.

3. Are you seeing a PT with any specialty certifications? Depending on the type of training they've had, or how they practice tends to influence how they practice. Those with manual therapy certifications may do more hands on techniques. Those with cerification in MDT will look at how you move and how movement affects your pain and focus more on corrective exercises...etc. Finally, those without specific spinal experience tend to focus on "core stability" or the general exercise approach rather than specific exercises. Then there is a group of PTs who tend to just do things like "myofascial release" and "trigger point" therapy which really just covers up the pain, not correct it.

4. Appointment times vary. I would venture to say that most appointments are 30-45 minutes. As someone with an MDT cerification, the evaluation is usually 45 minutes, but treatments are usually pretty quick...once a movement is found that reduces your pain. When patients are doing well, I often only need to see them for about 15 minutes.

5. Finally, once you've had surgery, there is almost invariably some residual chronic pain. Whether it is reversible or not can only be determined once you are in the clinic.

If you'd like a reference, I'd suggest you go to http://www.mckenziemdt.org if you'd like to see a PT who is certified in mechanical diagnosis and therapy.
