No, probably not a tear...probably just a "stinger" type of injury...a rapid stretch or compression to a nerve (ie, the tingling sensation). It should get better on its own.Signs of a rotator cuff tear usually include pain (but sometimes not so much if the tear is complete) met with inability to raise the arm overhead (especially if the tear is complete).
Could you tear the rotator cuff from pushing it too hard with the exercises? Sure...if you exceed the tensile strength of the tissue, it will fail.

This is a small quote from the site given in the link below"There are two different types of surgery for disorders of the rotator cuff. One is referred to as subacromial smoothing. This procedure removes scar tissue and damaged tendon and debris from the joint. The surgeon may also choose to remove small amounts of bone from the underside of the joint.
The rotator cuff repair procedure involves sewing a torn tendon or tendons back to the arm bone. This type of rotator cuff surgery can restore some strength and movement but it may not be able to restore absolute full strength or range of motion to the shoulder area. "

Depends on badly its torn. There is a grading system 1,2 and 3 (being the worse).If yours is a grade 1 or 2, your chances are better. You need a proper rehab exercise routine. Be patient and you will recover. Be inpatient and you will re injure and damage the rotator cuff even more. It's a small muscle grp that does a lot for the upper limb. So correct the condition and strengthen it fully before going back to martial arts.

Granted, I see mostly people with large or massive tears, but even with a small tear, I think the hand behind back exercise is a little aggressive for this early. You likely need more rotation to complete this stretch which includes shoulder internal rotation, extension and scapular retraction and anterior tipping. It's likely that you need more manual stretching from the therapist first in general planes as opposed to doing this complex maneuver. Don't get me wrong, it is normal to still have pain at this point, and the substitution pattern you describe (the shoulder hiking) is pretty typical and I would expect this stretch to hurt, but I would not push you into severe pain at this point. The repair has not yet reached full tensile strength (that takes closer to 8-12 weeks) and residual inflammation could be aggravated. Ask your therapist as to whether this is really necessary at this point. There is likely an alternative he/she could show you. We need to know from you when issues like this arise.
