Schools With Physical Therapy Programs

Roberto Said:

Grad school versus Medical School for physical therapy?

We Answered:

Some medical schools house physical therapy programs, but the vast majority are held at major universities in the Allied Health professions department. There is no difference between going to a PT program at a medical school and a major university...the medical school is mutually exlusive from the PT program as well as the admissions requirements. Med students are required to take the MCATs and you will only be required to take the GRE.

You can find a list of all the PT programs in the US at www.apta.org

Good luck

Martin Said:

If I'm in pre-physical therapy, and get a good score on my MCAT, will med schools consider me?

We Answered:

As long as you meet the prereqs for Med school, your Major isn't all that important. But your overall GPA, your GPA in the prereqs and your MCAT scores are what will be the determining factors (assuming your impress on the interview and personal statement).

I know the Alabama programs--good schools. I also have family at Auburn. PT isn't easy, so if you're doing well, congrats. Give a lot of thought, though, about pursuing the MD. The intensity of your studies will increase by magnitudes, but if you can handle it for PT, you can certainly handle it for med school.

Judy Said:

what are some schools with a 5 year physical therapy program?

We Answered:

All the programs in this area of the country (and in fact most programs in the US) are all doctorate level programs which typically take 7 years to complete.

There are two MS level programs...Howard University which is still a 6 year program and Western Carolina University. Yet, I don't know the structure of this program

Alma Said:

What school has the better Physical Therapy program?

We Answered:

U of S has yet to graduate their first DPT class (2009), but has remained accredited in the process.

SFU has been accredited for the DPT since 2004...they report a greater than 96% first pass rate on the licensure exam. (this information was not listed for U of S).

Both are one of the few direct entry admit programs in the country...meaning you are able to enter the program as a freshman and remain in the program as long as you meet their requirements.

Both sound like good programs...but I would ask U of S their first pass rate.

Patrick Said:
