what are some physical therapy exercises for a torn tendant in a shoulder?

Brian Said:

should i keep going to physical therapy for my shoulder?

We Answered:

If you are a very good observer and will do them without slacking off, you can do them yourself.

Part of the physical therapy is learning to take care of yourself.

Try for a month and then go back to see if there is a next step.

Popping joints and muscle pain from physical therapy exercises..please help.?

We Answered:

First, don't worry about the popping unless it is painful. As far as the soreness goes, there may be adaptations you can do to still accomplish what you are hoping. Sometimes we use objects, edges of tables, backs of chairs, etc to stretch different joints. Show your therapist which exercises are causing you to have pain on the opposite side...hopefully, some adaptations can be made.

Physical Therapy after a shoulder dislocation??

We Answered:

I follow Matt's rule of thumb as well. I also follow the guidelines of mechanical diagnosis and therapy. Movements that do NOT cause increasing pain that remains even after you stop doing the movement, or movements that do not result in an immediate progressive LOSS of motion are generally not harmful.

There are many things that can cause a joint to pop...including rough spots on tendons, joint surfaces, shifting tissues etc.

There are times after dislocation that may cause a painful popping, and this is usually related to tears in the labrum (a lip of cartilage that deepens the socket) and might be harmful as the joint shifts slightly in an out of place...but this would be indicated by pain and possible loss of motion in certain direcitons.

The reality is that your shoulder may continue to pop...but if it is not painful, it is not much to worry about. Popping does not imply pathology.

Discuss It!
