Traveling Physical Therapy

Darlene Said:

Physical therapy question?

We Answered:

My reply was going to be much like some of the previous answerers and suggest that you try to arrange to have your physiotherapy just before or after your shift so you only have to drive the once. Having treatment near home will disrupt your sleep patterns and make you miserable. P&P :-).

I want to spend a year traveling and have questions about health insurance?

We Answered:

No, you shouldn't have any trouble, as long as it's with a group policy, and you don't let your current policy lapse.

Check with your current policy, though, because likely you're NOT going to have "worldwide" coverage.

If I was to get licensed in La. for Physical Therapy Asst, would I have to get recertified in Tx if I moved?

We Answered:

You will need a new license for each state you practice in. It may take some time (weeks to months to fill out the paperwork required) so allow enough time and apply early.

There is no reciprocity.

Is laser therapy for joint injury and inflamation a fraud? If not, what exactly is the underlying mechanism?

We Answered:

Although I don't know much about it specifically, it has been commended as an effective treatment for achilles tendonitis. Several studies exist to support it, but I haven't read into the detail too much.

...as far as knee surgery...I'm not so sure. Doing just a quick glace through PEDro (Physiotherapy evidence database), very few studies on LLLT for knee problems exist (although PEDro is not inclusive of ALL studies). When they do exist, they focus mostly on arthritis and really have poor results or were poorly done.

I'd ask your PT for some specific scientific references as to its efficacy.
