Are Physiotherapists Doctors

Lois Said:

Are physiotherapists legitimate Doctors?

We Answered:

Hi.Im a physiotherapist from ?stanbul. Physiotherapists are not doctor and doctors are not physioterapist. Those re different but similar jobs.Physiotherapists re a team with doctors(orthopedists, neurologist, pysiatr… etc.).Like this: if someone needs physical therapy and treatment or rehabilitation must be first inspect and examinate by a doctor (MD).And then physical therapists do the therapy; like some electrotherapy, maniplation and exercises...Therapists CANT decide the diognosis or medicine, doctors make this and send the patient to physical therapist with the diognosis and self suggestions. In my country, physiothrerapy education is 4 years. 2 years same lessons like medicine and 2 years proffesional lessons. And then 3 years master -if you want. (for example Ive made my master about sport rehabilitation; sport medicine and exersice physiologie in ?stanbul Medicine University)Also 7 years education. Its very hard but joyfull and important job. Thanks...

Doctors and physiotherapists! Advice please.?

We Answered:

I agree with your friend. Yes, you should get a walking boot/cast and crutches from your Doctor. If for some reason your Dr. refuses to give you them you may need to buy them at a pharmacy.

Diana Said:

is there any law for physiotherapists to prefix doctor?

We Answered:

To practice as a physiotherapist you do not have to be a doctor, so, no, physiotherapists are not doctors.

A physiotherapist is an person who helps people recover from injuries through the use of exercise and manipulation of joints and limbs.

A doctor is a medical professional qualified to diagnose and prescribe drugs. They are typically qualified in general medicine and then specialise in a certain field.

It is possible to take post-qualifying training and education in physiotherapy, up to and including doctorate level, however, the doctorate would most likely be a PhD rather than an MD. Most universities that offer physiotherapy courses will have post graduate courses, so the first thing to do would be to speak to the physiotherapy department at your university of choice.

Are Physiotherapists legitimate doctors... and if yes in which countries....Is it wise to?

We Answered:

Physiotherapists are just as good like other doctors. In earlier days, physiotherapists existed just by experience, but nowadays, they also get graduated. There are Universities in India, which conduct a course for 5 years, and award degrees in Physiotherapy, equivalent to M B B S degree.

Victoria Said:

Is there any law in India which authorizes the Indian Physiotherapists to use the prefix Doctor?

We Answered:

As I know no

Should Chiropractors, Physiotherapists, Naturopoaths, Homeopaths, Optometrists be called doctors?

We Answered:

Optometrists yes, because they are trained and qualified "eye doctors". People are usually only confused as to the difference between optometrists and opthalmologists but both can effectively and legally treat eye conditions. However, NO, to the others you mentioned. I say this because patients are often misled into thinking that they are physicians who are liscensed to diagnose and treat medical conditions. Part of this has to do with uninformed patients but the bigger problem is that many of these pseudo-practitioners do little to correct this misperception and some encourage it and gain access to people based on this fact. There are clear and documented benefits of alternative therapies but it is irresponsible, dangerous, and predatious to act outside of one's legal scope of practice. I feel so strongly about this because I of a patient I had last year. He was six years old and his parents were at there wits' end trying to get him some help for his psychological issues. They somehow ended up at the door of a naturopath who took them for more than $7,000.00 they didn't have to spare and sent this little boy into a deep psychosis from which he has yet to recover. This man had a clinic, complete with exam rooms/tables, white coats, assistants who wore scrubs and stethescopes around their necks, advertised as a doctor, and wore a white coat with the initials ND, instead of MD, behind his name. He ordered labs(fake ones by the way), made an official diagnosis, and gave them medications to treat said disorder. Tell me that's not impersonating a physician.

Ian Said:

Who do dentists practice on before they are qualified?

We Answered:

They practice on mannequines first (fitted with real teeth), then they move up to each other, family members and volunteers. Like it was already stated they do so under the close supervision a qualified dentist.
Same goes for Hygenists.......I was my wife's victim....I mean patient....several times as were most of my family.

They do use teeth from deceased people, but they are usually removed from the rest of the body.
