Being A Physiotherapist

Margie Said:

Is being a Physiotherapist equivalent to being a doctor?

We Answered:

The short answer is - NO - a physiotherapist is NOT a physician.

Different people can be called "doctor" legitimately without being an actual medical doctor....anyone with a PhD degree is entitled to that form of address. A dentist is a doctor....even a lawyer (degree of JD or LLD here in the US) is TECHNICALLY a doctor....many clerics (DivD or PhD in Theology) can be called doctors...

HOWEVER - when someone yells: "Is there a DOCTOR on the plane?" no one would imagine that they are requesting a dentist or a lawyer. So, the colloquial use of the term "doctor" usually means a physician.

Need help as a job about being a physiotherapist?

We Answered:

Is your degree in physiotherapy? If so then your department should help you to find the job adverts.
If not then you will need to do a post-graduate course in physiotherapy. NHS pay scales are published. Private pay scales will vary but often they require experience in the NHS first.
If you haven't any experience of physiotherapy it may be worth contacting a local hospital to see if you could do some 'work experience' or 'seeing practice' for a week or so to see if this is the career for you. The physios you meet there may share their experiences with you.
Good luck.
