I Want To Be A Physiotherapist

Vanessa Said:

What A levels should I aim to take if I want to be a physiotherapist?

We Answered:

the simple rule for medicine is always take Chemistry and Biology, then the third subject is your choice, as long as it is not general studies or critical thinking, or an applied GCE or BTEC.

So you want your grades for A level to be
Chemistry A
Biology A
other subject B

This i the bare minimum though you must have at least 6 weeks work experience in any care/medical area of work, that ranges from ambulance to care homes they all count although not related to the job you will be doing it is worth it as it looks really good on your application form at university, and remember 6 weeks is the minimum you should be doing, try and make it 2 months (8 weeks)

If I want to be a physiotherapist when I grow up, what should I major in when I go to university?

We Answered:

In order to practice as a physiotherapist, you must complete an accredited university program in physiotherapy, and then meet licensing requirements in your province.

Currently, the basic requirement to work as a physiotherapist is a bachelor’s degree. These programs take 3 to 4 years to complete. However, starting in 2010, universities in Canada will no longer offer bachelor’s degrees in physiotherapy. Anyone who wants to be a physiotherapist will have to complete a master’s degree. Many universities have already started to phase out bachelor’s degrees in physiotherapy.

To get into a master’s degree program, you first need to complete a 4-year bachelor’s degree, including specific courses in areas such as human physiology, psychology, and statistics. It’s a good idea to contact the physiotherapy school you are interested in to see what degrees they offer and what their admission requirements are. Master’s degree programs take 2 to 3 years to complete.

Once you have completed a physiotherapy program, you will need to be licensed or registered with the regulatory board in your province. This usually involves passing an exam.

If I want to be a physiotherapist?

High school doesn't matter. Physiotherapy schools looks at your undergrad marks. Most people major in kinesiology before going into physiotherapy. But your degree doesn't matter. Some pyshiotherapy schools require prerequisites from universities. You'll need to take anatomy, physiology, statistics, and sciences in university. Try taking advanced functions/calculus, biology, exercise science, chemistry, and physics in high school.
