Physical Therapist Physiotherapist

Bradley Said:

What's the difference between a physiotherapist and a physical therapist, if any?

physiotherapy is treatment of diseases and defects by physical
remedies, such as massage or electricity rather than by drugs. physical therapy:
of the body: physical exercise. of matter; material:according to the laws of nature.

Miriam Said:

what is the difference of Physiotherapist and Physical Therapist? Are both considered as doctors?

We Answered:

Physical therapist is the American term for Physiotherapist. Nearly all countries in the world use the term "physiotherapist".

As far as I know, the US is the only country that offers the PT degree in the doctorate level...although I imagine that Canada and Australia/NZ are not that far away. However, even in the US, the current minimum degree required is the master's degree. (although hard to even find a program that still offers it as a master's)

Is there a difference between a physiotherapist and a physical therapist?

We Answered:

Physical therapist is a synonym for physiotherapist, i.e. a therapist who treats injury or dysfunction with exercises and other physical treatments of the disorder.

What's the difference between a Physical Therapist and aPhysiotherapist?

We Answered:

I will concur. Physiotherapy is the term used pretty much every where in the world except the US where we use the term physical therapist. It's the same thing. I would guess that your physician is foreign if he/she uses that term. One our our physicians from Poland always calls us physiotherapists.

Addendum: a physiologist is usually in reference to an exercise physiologist. This is someone who deeply understands the sciences behind advanced strength training. Some personal trainers are also exercise physiologists. Otherwise, you'll need to look at a sports training facility (advanced performance centers), or you could try looking at a physical therapy clinic that offers post rehabilitation exercise physiology (sports med centers are often good for this...)
