In Australia what qualifications do I need to be an Early Childhood Intervention worker/assistant?

We Answered:

It may depend on who the job is through DHS or in the private sector.

DHS tends to be fairly strict in ensuring their staff are suitably qualified, that is not to say the private sector doesn't scrutinize their staff either, or demand equally qualified employees.

Does the job state what the duties will be, such as developing, planning and implementing programs, or liaising with other agencies, clients and their families. This may give you a clearer picture of what they are looking for.

However it is quite possible to be an assistant in early intervention, but given they are asking for specific qualifications means the applicant must be able to perform specific duties.

You could contact them and ask what is the minimum requirement is to apply for the job.

Do you have a WWC? If you don't go to the post office and get a WWC form fill it in and send off with a passport sized photo. This will help your chance of getting a job too.

All people through out Australia who work with anyone under the age of 18, MUST have a WWC Working With Children Check, it costs about $70 (which may vary from state to state) and it lasts for 5 years, as per usual the photo ID is horrid. Check in your state for full details.

I wish you luck if you apply for the job.

Physiotherapy Assistant Job? UK ONLY PLEASE! Interview tips etc?

Your experience as a nurse would be an asset. Your skills would be being able to communicate to members of the multidisciplinary team involved in a patient's present and on-going care, being able to talk to the patient, carers, family and friends in lay-understandable terms; you are able to care for the patient in your physiotherapist's hat as well as bringing into play your knowledge as a nurse with regards to moving and handling, legislation, ethics and having a hands-on approach; you are able to deal and cope with urgent situations (give examples, eg when a patient has fallen over, how did you handle it - keeping calm, being able to act quickly, professionally and safely), know when to ask for further information... and so on.

You obviously have the knowledge and skills for this role, so you can also mention how important it is to get the patient and their family/carers involved to improve the patient's outcome and compliance of treatment and advice (How would you do this?).

I hope that helps. Good luck!

Occupational Therapy Assistant/Physiotherapy Assistants career?

We Answered:

Most COTA and PTA jobs are in longterm care, with a few in hospitals and outpatient clinics (mostly PTAs there, though).
Either works under a licensed therapist who does the eveluations and treatment plans, so you have little to no say in what you personally think is best for the patient. Your job is to carry out the treatment plan.
PTAs and COTAs do the lion's share of the work and usually have a productivity standard of between 85 and 90%, which means that's how much patient contact you have during the 8 hours you're at work.
I've known both types of these paraprofessionals who loved, or hated, their job. It's as highly individual for the person who works, just like in any other job.
I personally would prefer being a PTA, though, since I would be bored silly teaching self-care and fine motor tasks.
