What Do Physiotherapists Do

Dale Said:

Is there always a need for physiotherapists and what kind of yearly salary do they get?

We Answered:

Once you become a PT there will be a job. Currently there is a real need. Back in 1999, there was a glut. I get called frequently with job offers.

U.S. News & World Report Adds Physical Therapists to 2009 list of Best Careers
Citing the two national job satisfaction surveys, U.S. News & World Report added physical therapists to their list of best careers for 2009. Despite a weakened economy, predictions see an increase in job supply as the baby boomer generation ages and physical therapists will be in more demand.

what exactly do physiotherapists do?

We Answered:

Physical therapy. Basically help people suffering from various conditions regain function. For example in orthopaedic PT, helping people to strengthen muscles after surgery. I don't think you will really use needles.

Darren Said:

Can anyone help advise me on physiotherapists course info?

We Answered:

Work Experience

* GET WORK EXPERIENCE - I cannot press this point enough. If you don't have work experience I wouldn't waste your time applying. It is HIGHLY likely your application will rejected with out a second thought. Universities know its hard to get work experience in this day and age, so usually one day is usually enough to suffice!
* When you do get work experience, try and get as much as you can in as many areas as you can .e.g elderly, inpatient, out patient, intensive care, community, musculo-skeletal etc
* Some hospitals operate a waiting list policy for experience students so get yourself on the list as soon as you can, and as many lists as you can.
* Some physio experience is a must but in addition you could try some other experience e.g. volunteering on a ward, nursing home, with kids etc etc. All these can be used to enhance your application and help you to give examples of situations whereby you used things like "teamwork, motivation" etc etc

If you have been refused a place then maybe ask the uni admissions team what would help you get a place next year.
Some unis have a summer school that they ask students to attend

so find out if the ubi of your choice has this.

There would be some other college courses that may help

HNC social care or something like that.

What do physiotherapists do when treating scoliosis?

We Answered:

They'll measure the degree of your spinal curvature. Prescribe excercises. Have you change your postural habits (sleep, carrying books, etc.) Extreme cases might call for a spinal brace. Real extreme, for a surgical procedure.
I have a bad spinal curvature due to one leg being shorter than the other. The choice is either a heavy limp or wearing a built-up shoe, but doctors won't operate.

Cindy Said:

Do hospitals employ physiotherapists?

We Answered:

Yes. You can get a jog in a hospital either in Government or private.

Courtney Said:

question for doctors and physiotherapists?

We Answered:

I had a very similar surgery about 7 years ago. Yes it is ok to do the cycling, if fact it is a good exercise. Just about any equipment is fine, just don't try to become super in one week. Any exercise that improver your back or abdominal muscles are good for you and will reduce any pain from your surgery. Try to stay from anything that puts heavy sideways, or heavy twisting strain on you. Also avoid extreme bending at the waist. This will put extra pressure on your spine because you don't the flex at L4/L5 and will force pressure on L3/L4.pp
