Speaking after a stroke...?

We Answered:

Sorry to hear about your dad's condition. This website have some general tips about helping with communication: http://www.aphasia.net/info/aphasia/apha…

To help with his communication, perhaps you can make a simple picture communication diagram. It can have simple pictures or words of daily objects and regular activities. This way, he can point to it to communicate basic needs easily.

If you need more tips, you can email me, I'll be glad to be of any help to you. =)

Help for Stroke / Aphasia Sufferers.?

We Answered:

There really isn't any miracle cure, medicine or magic therapy for aphasia. Therapy can help but it's a very slow process with mixed results. All strokes, and thus all cases of aphasia, are different in degree and severity. My husband has a very severe case of aphasia, apraxia and agraphia but he was able to learn to read again 2 years out from his stroke.

There's lists of resources in this Aphasia and Stroke Caregivers Guide....
