Shane Said:
3 year old with a severe speech delay is teaching 1 year old brother his made up words? We Answered:
I'm not an expert and have no personal experience but I would say that provided your younger child does not have a developmental delay himself he will learn to speak the way the majority of people he interacts with speak. He may start to say some of the things his older brother teaches him but those will likely just be temporary ways for the two to communicate. As your older son improves his speech and as your younger son continues to observe you and the rest of the people he interacts with everything should resolve itself. Since you know it is nothing environmental and only a problem with your son himself then you can be assured that it is not contagious - your older son will not give his brother the same disorder - even if for a time your younger son mimicks his brother.Definitely talk to your son's therapist about this concern but it sounds like you are doing everything right. Don't doubt your abilities as a parent and don't lose sleep over it. Your boys will be fine.
