Baby Speech Therapy

Thomas Said:

Do I need speech therapy?

We Answered:

It couldn't hurt. They can help retrain the tongue. Most people do get used to it, but if has been 4 years, I would say you might need a pro!

Manuel Said:

How can I show my husband that every child is different?? I really want a baby!!?

We Answered:

I think you should talk to your husband about this in more detail. It sounds like maybe he doesn't think that you guys could handle another child right now or maybe he doesn't feel he could. I bet if you two can just talk to each other about your feelings the decision you make together will only make you stronger. Join a support group or look for other parents who have faced the challenge of having a child with delays and have other children. Put some of his fears to ease. Even if you are pregnant I would try this just to provide some comfort. A lot of people blame themselves when their child has problems, but it is an issue that you both should address together. I wish your family the best of luck.

Greg Said:

Will speech therapy really help my 20month old baby?

We Answered:

yes. it will definately help him. My son entered speech at 27 months old with 10 words. There was a little boy after us who was 10 months old when he started ( not babbling). My son went from 10 words to 50+ words, 50+ signs in less than 3 months. Within 4-5 months he was speaking in sentences. He has 30-60 minutes of individual therapy a week, and has for the last 15 months. Because of the nature of my sons disorder, he still has articulation issues, but is probably 80% intelligable to strangers.

Raymond Said:

At what age should I be concern if my baby needs speech therapy?

We Answered:

My Mother says that I did not start talking until I was almost 3 years old- and have NOT shut up since (LOL)! With that said, are their any other signs that he may be showing, that tend to prove that he knows things? I was reading newspapers at age 1- and my Mother says that she knew that I knew how to talk, with words and all, but I just wouldn't do it! Se also says that my first words were, "May I have a piece of toast, Please?"- in perfect grammatical English! So, I would not worry about it; watch for signs that he is, in fact, learning, and then just wait!
