Child Speech Therapist
Miriam Said:
What should a speech therapist be doing with a child that is 11 or 12 months old?We Answered:
Working with beginning sounds, babbling, making loud vs. soft sounds, devolping vocabulary, using sounds to communicate to others, etc.An eleven month old WOULD or SHOULD be working on developing a receptive vocabulary. The therapist should be saying things like "This is a ball. Ball." The hope is that the kid would begin to recognize that this is a word, words actually mean things (aha! communication!) and then they world work on expressive communication.

speech therapist in delhi for child with ADHD and delayed speech problem? We Answered:
I have used a program called sensory integration training from essential learning institute for my child. Their website is www.LDhope.com. I was reluctant at first since there are so many programs out there but when they said it was like a miracle program, it is! We did in in my home and found improvements to start in about 2-3 months. Their program is available worldwide and special setups are available for schools.Pamela Said:
We are unhappy with our child's speech therapist provided by the school district. Do we have other options? We Answered:
is there another speech therapist in the school?if not, you may not have much luck.
if there is another therapist, it should be a simple request.
would you consider talking your child after school to a private therapist at the schools expense?
the ST does need to provide services according to the IEP, if this is not done, the school needs to make a change...legally
it would be unreasonable to reassign her at this point..but for next year should a spot open at a different school--you could request that she be moved...but that may not be fair to the kids that are progressing with her
Edwin Said:
what do serve a therapist who comes to your home to work with your child? Like a speech therapist.?We Answered:
I don't think you should serve her anything. When she is on the job, she should just be working during that time. She has break times scheduled, so don't worry about her. You don't want to tempt her with extra food. She may be trying to lose weight, or she may be on a diabetic diet.Eric Said:
how does a speech therapist teach a child with autism? We Answered:
Well from a young age they do try and start with basic speech lessons and how to move the mouth like exercise, then they try and learn through play games and puzzles word games things like this, and like for my son now he has severe autism they then tried the picture exchange system also known as PECS they are simple pictures of everyday things 'toilet' 'drink' 'wash' which can also be used to make a time table, next is makaton which is a simple sign language used in most special schools and now some nursery schools use this method
