Is PDD-NOS a form of mild autism? We Answered:
Yes it is. It is on the mild end of the spectrum. I don't know if you have seen a specialist in Autism spectrum disorders, but you definitely should. There's a good resource here, http://www.asperger.org/I had the DD-NOS diagnosis until I was properly diagnosed with Asperger's in 2005. Your son sounds like he might be Autistic or have Asperger's. Does he also exhibit repetitive behavior patterns that serve no purpose?
I hope you find a good specialist that will help.

Why doesn't my two year old talk?We Answered:
Well all I can say is this:My cousin has a son who, like yours, wasn't speaking at that age. You couldn't understand him and he would have tantrums as a result. He just couldn't express what he wanted to. A lot of my family thought he was unintelligent, or that there was something else wrong with him. But I kept encouraging my cousin to just have patience and he will figure it out one day. I could tell that he did understand what was going on, He just couldn't get it from his mind out of his mouth, if that makes sense. They had him see a speech therapist but not for long, because he would have those tantrums so they took him out.
He is now 3 and speaks in full sentences.
He just one day started talking. Just...saying what he wanted to say.
And although it's not talked about much, there are plenty of children who go from not talking to just...talking. Just straight talking.
So I guess what I'm saying is - give it time. It's frustrating, it's hard when you see other kids speaking (but don't be! There's plenty that your child can do! Every child is born with gifts, they just unwrap each one at different times!) and it's tiring. But hang in there! She will be fine!
Until then, focus on what she can do and what she likes to do. Does she like to paint? Does she like to go bug exploring? Does she like magnets or legos? Just focus on whatever it is that she likes. It will all fall into place.
:D

To parents with children who have disabilities or disorders? We Answered:
Oh honey I absolutely know how you feel.My MIL started to first talk about getting Tyler tested when he was about 2.5 years old. I didn't have him tested until he was 4 because i felt there was nothing wrong with him. Turns out he has Autism. I felt like such a terrible parent that I couldn't stop crying about it. "If only I would've tested him sooner..." is all I keep thinking. If I wouldn't of been so naive, maybe at 4 years old he would know what "Tyler's birthday" is. Yeah, he's 4 and doesn't understand the birthday concept. Or Easter, Or Christmas....*sigh*
You're on the right path. Finish up the tests and do the recommendations; speech therapy or whatever else. YOU didn't do anything to cause this, remember that.
Keep me posted :)
Good luck!
