Please help my 6 year old daughter...lots of symptoms, few answers!!!?We Answered:
This is just for information - when I was ill - my body suffered from side effects from the medications I was taking - I changed the meds and the side effects would switch to something new. The medical profession knows about these effects - but prescribe the medication anyway with the idea that the results will be more beneficial than not taking the meds.Joanne Said:
If my daughter was tongue tied... would we know by now?We Answered:
People can be tongue tied in different ways and your doctor might not have noticed it. My son had his tongue clipped since the tip of his tongue was stuck on the bottom of his mouth. My brother is tongue tied, but clipping it won't matter because his also has a small pallet. I, also, was tongue tied, but my tongue ripped my first day of school and my speech followed quickly.Regardless, your daughter is only two and it is nothing to worry about yet. I'd even say she wouldn't need speech therapy for at least other year or more. Some kids just go at a different pace.

my 21 month old boy hasn't started to speak yet?We Answered:
Hi. I say just give him a little more time. My son said hardly anything at 2. He is 2 1/2 now, and says a LOT now. He can speak better than some his age, and not as good as some his age. Like some of the others have said, every kid develops differently. I think the doctors in America are over diagnosing autism today. It seems like any time there is something slightly wrong with a child that is the first thing doctors jump to. And I think they have made parents the same way with having so many children diagnosed now a days. You used to hear back in the days of children bot being able to talk well, and never got diagnosed with autism, and they turn out just fine. Anyway, it's just my opinion that that doctors are over diagnosing autism these days.Try this link. It's a quiz for PPD.(a type of autism) Maybe it will help you.

Please share opinions, advice for our son?We Answered:
My son is 3 and was diagnosed with apraxia (a developmental speech disorder) at age 2. He had some delays that made us suspect autism as a worst case scenario, but were relieved at this treatable diagnoses. That said, our family is not super wealthy either and the thought of spending $700 a visit for therapy was overwhelming. Our local All Children's Hospital's Speech and Language Pathology Institute made the initial diagnoses (that bill hurt), but they referred us to a federal government program called Early Steps for free treatment that was very effective. Your son is too old for this program at age 6, but if you contact your local chapter of Early Steps, they should be able to put you on the right track to get federally funded diagnoses and treatment for your son.
My son now goes to public school in a Pre-K ESE program. It is fully funded and includes transportation. He is showing wonderful improvement and is quickly catching up with his age group.
If your pediatrician is unsympathetic, go to another one......and another one.....and another one......until you get the referral you need. I was very lucky and it was our wonderful pediatrician who initially suggested we take our son to a SLP for evaluation right after he turned 2 and seemed speech delayed with trouble producing sounds.
Be persistent!
Good luck.
