My son didn't really talk until he was close to 2 years of age. I never did the denial thing for him as this would just cause anger and frustration over a cup of juice. I don't know if it would work for your case but I actually got my little guy talking by saying words in a funny way so that he would want to repeat me. Then he would be rewarded. For the longest time he flat refused to say Mommy. He could say it but would not. I had him on my lap one day facing me and I turned my head side to side and said different words like Momma, mommma, momma, daddy, daddy, daddy, more, more, more. He just went along with it and mimicked me. He then started to say things on his own. I don't know if it will work, but I do know that the more you push it, the more he will realize how much power he truly has. I had to really back off and make it fun before he would say much. Then again, boys tend to be less verbal than little girls. His early life may also account for some additional time and some TLC. You sound like you're doing a great job, though, just keep working with him and talk to your doctor along the way. He may just wake up one day and not stop talking ;-)
