Ideas to help my sons speach? We Answered:
just practice show him the letters and make the proper sound!i use to use the SH sound as GU i went threw so many things at school! we played games a lot but we mostly just talked and when we said something wrong we were corrected!
Make sure he take's time! When he is old enought to read make him read a small book or artical backwards that gives him time to focus on each word instead of the sentence!~
Good luck~
BTW i'm an on air personality yeah i talk for a living!
:)

At what ages should children learn certain things? We Answered:
It sounds like the four year old might be slightly behind developmentally. The American Academy of Pediatrics suggests that by the age of four to five children should be able to speak and write more clearly. I'm not sure if this is because of her mother's influence; she may just be a late bloomer. I would recommend asking her pediatrician just to be sure that everything is alright.I wouldn't worry about the 16 month old; from 12 to 18 months children often talk in their own made up language.

question for a preschool teacher? We Answered:
Hey there. So I have some insight for you. Your daughter needs more Sensory Driven Activities in her life. Do you have a sand and water table at your house? They are reasonable prices almost anywhere. Also, GIVE her paper to tear. Maybe bust out the christmas wrapping paper and tell her "THIS is the paper that is okay to rip" Get her a special notebook and tell her "THIS is the notebook you can scribble all over and make special art for your room, or the refrigerator"Also she IS FOUR. Taking things apart and putting then back together helps her Cognitive Development Skills. It gets her thought processes going. Thats why little kids repeatedly take off their shoes and socks just to put them back on.
I have worked with newborns through 8 year olds for the past 5 years and I promise you will see more of that as she learns new things. You have to channel her energy, because if not you will be frustrated and so will she, and you will get angry and she will get upset and thats not a healthy relationship.
I hope this helps a little!

Autism question...Any help please.?We Answered:
Ok so he is on the autistic spectrum which can be PDD.NOS (atypical autism), or autistic disorder, asperger's too but generally docs won't make that call with a speech delay however I like many believe that the difference between HFA (high functioning autism) and asperger's is the thought process rather than speech or delayed speech. Although the DSM doesn't recognize asperger's with speech delay it exists and certain neuro's will call it. Most just say PDD (any autistic spectrum disorder).I am autistic and a psych nurse. Married, 3 sons. Dx 1975 at age 3. Later I heard asperger's sometimes (1988 first time dx asperger's).
I have 2 sons dx on the spectrum riding with PDD.NOS at this age. My oldest, I feared he'd never talk. We were told he was moderately autistic at 25 months old. He first began talking at age 4 after 2 years of speech therapy with next to no results. Now he talks your ear off and has been since age 6. My middle son dx PDD.NOS and then recently when he turned 4 autistic disorder did not begin talking til 3.5 yrs. He speaks in phrases now.
It sounds like the issue is SPD. Sensory processing disorder. You need a good OT to address the sensory needs.

Are you doing wilbarger brushing protocol?
If he's having lots of meltdowns-and it sounds like it, this really really works.
pricey but he probably needs it size medium if he's an average size about 32 lbs and 38"

for wilbarger brushing
http://www.superduperinc.com/products/vi…
get an electric toothbrush for oral input to feed that seeking need
What's it all about? Same as why people smoke, put pen caps in their mouth etc sensory integration dysfunction
There are no meds per se for autism, there are meds for some symptoms that are common in autism like anxiety, inattention etc.
My middle son had several meltdowns a day, after 2 weeks of wilbarger brushing, they were just 1x/wk. He had to be brushed about 6x/day in the beginning. But meltdown's went from 45min-1hr to 25-30min and only once a week. After 6 months the meltdowns now happen on rare occasion but we stopped brushing after 6 months will do as needed now.

Homeschooling Dilemna?We Answered:
WHEW! You sound like me- a bit of a perfectionist, wanting all the ducks to line up in a nice, neat row, and feeling very frustrated when the ducks don't cooperate. :)First- the child you are homeschooling is in first grade, so I can't imagine why his schedule is so demanding. Are you using a program that is time and labor intensive? I've homeschooled 4 kids, and first grade never took more than 2 hours to cover basic math and reading. I'm thinking perhaps you've bitten off quite a chunk just with the materials you are using for school. A more relaxed approach to school might help both of you at this point. Since I don't know any details about your curriculum, that's my instinctive answer. Sorry if it is off the mark.
Second, I don't see how it would hurt to remove your youngest from preschool early. As far as I know, the compulsory education laws in most states don't apply to preschool aged children, so you shouldn't need any kind of permission or file any sort of notification- I'd double-check the age requirements for mandatory schooling in your state just in case though. It's best to feel confident in your knowledge of the law, especially if you feel that folks at the preschool might try to discourage you from removing your child. Your child is not going to be traumatized by leaving now any more than he/she would be 5 weeks from now. So I think your instincts are probably correct on that score.
A relaxed atmosphere is the best learning environment for a child, and when mom is stressed, EVERYONE is stressed. You sound like a very concerned, thoughtful, and involved parent, but you need to give yourself a break. You don't have to do everything all at once and perfectly. Your kids are young, and they have years of learning ahead of them. You WILL get this figured out.
I recommend joining a local homeschool support group if there is one in your area- if not, join one online so that you can discuss issues as they come up with others who can offer advice and encouragement. I do NOT recommend asking anyone in the public school system for information about home education- it is not their area of expertise. It's always best to contact a local homeschool group or a reputable site on the internet for information.
