Milton Said:

how do i make my voice strong?

We Answered:

im 17 and people say i look like im 10 that's also weird but off topic! maybe it could be genetics or stress on your vocal chords or larynx or something like that i know a kid who always had a squeaky voice until it changed last year

3 1/2 year old with severe speech delay? Can anyone relate? I'm becoming depressed about this & worried.?

We Answered:

you do not say exactly what her speech delay is...apraxia?aphasia?something else?

my son is 3.5 years old now, but at 2 years old I was in the same place you are in now. My niece has a little boy who is 6 months younger than my son. 3 weeks after my son turned 2 we were together for thanksgiving...her son was speaking in sentences ("bite please" "thank you very much" etc) and my son was saying about 10 words. No one actually said anything to me, but it was blatantly clear to me that my son was behind. It took us several months to get all the paperwork done, but he started EI at 27 months old.Within a few months he was at the point your daughter is at now. My son has apraxia, and although much of his speech is clear, when he gets excited nothing makes sense.

I do not think that her placement in special needs preschool is part of the problem. Saying that she is being further delayed by being with other speech delayed kids is like saying that my son will stop walking correctly becasue he has kids with gross motor delays in his class. My son has 7 other special needs kids in his class ( and 4 "typical" kids). no one thinks twice when the speech therapist comes in and pulls 3-4 kids aside for therapy. Not sure how much progress he is making, but we have him in additional one-on-one therapy other than school

Victoria Said:

My son has expressive language disorder, does this ever get better?

We Answered:

Yes, with a lot of social experiences and with adults as well and other kids talking with him at every opportunity, you can expect his language skills to grow and expand. Speech therapy alone will not "cure" him, but it can be a good place to keep an eye on his progress and to learn what you can be doing at home. Be sure to keep talking to him more like a 5 yr old than a 2 yr old, and he will probably begin to sound more like a 5 yr old. Enjoy your time with him, and he will respond well.

Manuel Said:

I have a small overbite .. and lisp ! ... Erm HELP? Dentist, Speech therapy ? What do I need lol?

We Answered:

You have not said how old you are and whether you are young enough to qualify for orthodontics on the NHS or even if you would meet the criteria. It has to be genuine clinical need and not just a lisp and small overbite.

Discuss your concerns with your dentist and see if it us the cause of the lisp. It is often not as a result of teeth but is more to do with speech technique and tongue movement.

Also you could try a one off private speech therapy appointment which will give you another thought process on this.
My daughter had a lisp which involved the S word, but three sessions with a speech therapist solved the issue very quickly. We did pay for it though as the NHS waiting list was enormous at the time.

Alan Said:

Clique girl or just plane stuck up.?

We Answered:

Hey, maybe she's too immature to handle secrets right now, someday she will be, but that's not today or tomorrow. That's ok, we do not control other people, they just are. Foibles and all, as are we.

No need to give her any unhappy energy. Find people you like and be interested in who they are.

It's a big big world.

Discuss It!
