Double Major in Speech Pathology & Occupational Therapy??

We Answered:

Occupational therapy is a field that I am trying to get into myself. :)

If I were you, I'd look up what each of the master programs entail (and the pre-requisites, too) There are certain classes you need in order to even be admitted to such programs. I can't say I know much about what you need for the Speech Pathology programs, but as far as OT goes, some of the classes needed are: 2 Sciences - Lab based (usually anatomy and physiology is best), psychology classes (abnormal psych, lifespan development, etc.), Statistics, etc. Find out which schools offer these programs and compare the classes side-by-side together. You can see what overlaps and you can see what extra classes are needed, too. It's possible to double major, but it might take more time and money and challenges. But, if it's something you REALLY want then you can strive for it.

In all, you got to look into both of them more and see if you have the passion to truly put in the time and effort and money for both. If not, I think these are both fine fields to go into - all of the health science ones are. Money is good, but I think making sure you have a passion for both is best!

Also, I'd definitely talk to a guidance counselor (especially ones that specialize in these fields) to see what steps would need to be taken to assure you do well and get into these programs. They could also give you more insight about the nature of the courses. You can also try volunteering at a job site for both of these occupations. That way you'd get a better look into the fields and see if they are something you truly want to do.
