Florence Said:

What undergraduate program to take to go to masters in speech language pathologist?

We Answered:

Most students come from a social science background - communications, psychology, sociology. Most speech pathology programs do not require a specific undergraduate program.

Kathryn Said:

How much do Speech-Language Pathology Assistants usually get paid to do screenings?

We Answered:

Private practices don't typically pay per screening. The SLP-A would be paid hourly, per diem, or get a salary.
Compensation will depend on experience and location.
Salary.com should tell you more. You could also check asha.org and check out the annual salary survey.

We Answered:

Usually an outgoing (or at least "people oriented") personality.
Willingness to apply oneself to any situation that comes up clinically; even the gross stuff.
Desire to help people who can't communicate, swallow, remember, or reason.
Being smart in English (another language, especially Spanish, is highly desirable), psychology, educational psych, anatomy and physiology of the nervous system, etc.
Interest in research.
Interest in working with all ages, from the cradle to the grave.

Pamela Said:

What test do they use for 2nd grade speech & language assessment?

We Answered:

In our school district in texas, we use the CASL (Comprehensive Assessment of Spoken Language)
or CREVT-2 (Comprehensive Receptive and Expressive Vocabulary Test) For articulation, we use the GFTA -(Goldman-Fristoe Test of Articulation 2). There are several - 60 + tests that your school district can choose from so just ask them. They'll tell you.
