Speech Pathology Programs

Victoria Said:

Where can i find a list of colleges or universities offering speech pathology programs?

We Answered:

You shouldn't be worried about changing your major just because you feel like it's late in the game. I actually recently graduated with a BS in Speech-Language Pathology and I didn't even take the intro course until the 2nd semester of my 2nd yr. I was able to graduate on time, but I did stay for summer classes after my 3rd yr so I could catch up. So you see, it's definitely possible. Speak to your academic advisor and see if you can talk about your plan and maybe lay out a degree plan.

Also, if you decide to finish your undergrad with an elementary ed degree, I think you can still apply to the speech pathology grad program, but you'll have to take leveling classes along with the regular coursework. A great site to check out is ASHA.org.

Good luck and I'm sure it'll work out!

Speech-pathology programs, only one in my city?

We Answered:

Your best bet is to do as much research as you can about the grad program in your city. What are the prerequisites? How long will it take to complete them? It usually takes a year for the prerequisites. Go talk to someone in the department. Apply for the program. If you don't get in, then either take the prerequisites as an undergraduate (degree or non-degree, depending on your options) at the university. This will give you a chance to get to know the facutly, and they you, and if you work really, really, hard, you'll be able to impress them and thus increase your chances of getting in because they'll know that you're capable of doing the work.

Unless the online program is one that you're really sure about and is from a school that has a good and accredited speech pathology program, don't do it. It must be accredited, otherwise you won't be able to get lisenced by the American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA). I added some links below of accredited online speech pathology programs. Good luck.

Does Calstate Long Beach have a better Speech Pathology graduate program or Calstate Northridge?

We Answered:

CSUN has an excellent program..
If I had to do it all over again, I'd still pick CSUN. I had great clinical placements (UCLA, WLA VA Medical Center) and fine professors, several of whom are still there.
