Speech Pathology Schools

Luis Said:

What do I need to do to apply to grad schools for Speech/Language Pathology?

We Answered:

Start studying for the GREs, you'll need at least a 1200 to get looked at at any decent grad school. For speech/language pathology you'll probably want to try for the top 10 schools in the field because it is a very small field with few opportunities. What matters most is your GPA, it should be at least a 3.5.

Affordable/good quality grad schools for speech pathology?

We Answered:

That is a very nice score. Congratulations to you for that.

Of the grad programs I was admitted to, Northwestern did not offer me any aid (they try to reserve that for their PhD students rather than give it to the MAs).

Ohio State University gave me a nice fellowship, and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) did not offer me any aid initially, but I got two fellowships that I applied for once I was there.

Programs that are in-state will most likely be cheaper for you. If you can declare yourself as independent on your FAFSA that would probably help. Also, look into which of the schools you are interested in have research that you are interested in and can help with. Several people at UIUC had fellowships, assistantships, TA positions, and/or all of the above in addition to what ever financial aid the gov. provided.

Good luck :)

We Answered:

U.S. News and World Report has top-ranking schools rated for just about every major, including speech pathology and audiology. I just looked at it the other day in order to answer a YA inquiry.
