Speech Therapist Assistant

Crystal Said:

Need Opinions! Physician's Assistant or Speech/Lang. Therapist?

We Answered:

If you want to be a physician assistant (note spelling), then don't worry--you will get a job. There are enough. Be sure you get a masters though--anything less will put you at a disadvantage. As to what you should do--you need to go for the one that you will find the most fulfilling. If your heart isn't into the one you chose, you will not be successful. These are such 2 different careers, only you will be able to decide. But you are correct, the PA program will not afford you the ability to be part time or work. And again if its not a masters, it is not recommended. Sounds like you are leaning to speech therapist...?

Speech Pathology or Teaching??

We Answered:

My wife is a Speech Language Pathologist and has worked in special education for over 30 years. I believe you should ask yourself what is most appealing-working with one specific group (specific disability or resource room or diagnosis) or want to work with many different individuals/diagnosis. As for employment-there is a shortage nationwide for school speech paths. My wife gets on average 4 job offers every month.

Hope this helps

Questions about Speech pathology degree?????

We Answered:

Some states allow you to work for a couple years as a speech therapist before starting your master's program. I know FL is that way and VA was when I lived there over 5 years ago. I'm sure there are other states that do that but I am not sure which ones.
