Plan to rent first until you get a feel for the city. Houston traffic can be quite frustrating. Once you find jobs then locate to the best area that's closest to your job. A very nice centrally located area to rent is Memorial in west Houston. Farther out west, the Katy area is wonderful. On the north side, The Woodlands, South side, Sugar Land. Southeast, Clear Lake. Northeast, Kingwood. It all depends where you're going to be working. With your child only being one year old, you'll not have to worry about school districts just yet, Welcome to Houston.
