helppppppp speech therapist or elementary teacher? We Answered:
Which Praxis are you taking? I'm surprised that you're doing one now.I don't know what state you're in, but if you want to be a speech therapist you take the audiology and speech program. You can do it after you get your credential ( it takes about 2 years) or a 4 year program, after which you can work in schools or hospital clinics, etc. If I were you, I'd go to your department head or the career center and get some more information. It sounds like you're doing more than you have to.

Speech Therapist?We Answered:
You will have to have your Masters in Speech Pathology or Communication Disorders to be a speech pathologist. I am one. It takes about 6 years of college, clinicals, and comprehensive and oral examinations. Very difficult, but worth it in the end.Melinda Said:
How to choose a good Speech Therapist? We Answered:
That is definitely not right. That lady should be fired.Just look for a nice/patient lady. I say lady because it's more common for ladies to be nicer and more patient than the men.
[Not being sexist guys?sorry.]
There are many good male therapists as well as mean female therapists (such as yours) but I strongly suggest finding a new female therapist. Don't ask questions to the therapist asking if they are nice or patient or anything because it might make them feel uncomfortable or just develope negative feelings towards you (which means she/he might act differently towards your daughter) so just give a new therapist a try and let your daughter figure out if she likes him/her or not.

What educational background do you need to acquire to become a special education speech therapist? We Answered:
the educational background required to become a full-fledged speech language pathologist is to have a masters degree in speech language pathology. some graduate schools offer a masters of science in this, and some a masters of arts. so it just really depends on where you go. all schools DO take students who may have different bachelor degrees (maybe in biology, psychology, child development, and so on) and this usually makes your graduate program a tad longer than a student who majored in speech language pathology in undergrad.universities that offer a masters or phD program for SLP (that are notable) in california and the surrounding states are: san diego state, CSU long beach, san francisco state, university of the pacific, sacramento state, CSU hayward, chico state, university of nevada reno, portland state, university of oregon, university of washington, and university of hawaii honolulu.
what you can expect in the graduate program is to have a lot of coursework, an internship in the schools, and an externship in a hospital. after you receive your master degree, you then have to complete a clinical fellowship year/rpe in which you get an actual job (and get paid, yay!) and have a direct supervisor. once that is completed, you are fully licensed and ready to rock and roll.
if you are interested in the most accelerated graduate program (and you really get the most bang for your buck) it is at university of the pacific. they have the opportunity to finish the graduate program (internships and all) in 15 months. it is completely worth it!
best of luck!
