my daughter went to speech therapy, as soon as she opened her mouth they noticed she had tongue tie, my gp and health visitor hadn't noticed. so if there is any underlying problem they will pick up on it. give it a go you have nothing to loose, and he is still young.

You can have her evaluated by a speech therapist and see what they say. This is available free through the school district, as they start these services at age three. The earlier you correct this the easier it will be. I wouldn't wait until she starts kindergarten, I'd call now.

How she will be communicating at 6-7 has to do with several factors:
1) Her diagnosis. There are many reasons a child may have for experiencing problems with speech and/or language. Nobody here has diagnosed her, nor are they qualified to do so. If she was going to "grow out of it", she would have done so a long time ago.
2) The severity of the problem.
3) Her attitude about, and willingness for, participating fully in therapy.
4) Family support; mostly for follow-through with therapy assignments provided by the speech pathologist.
5) The skill of the speech pathologist.
As you will find out, there are lots of kids who need therapy, which is why the therapy is done in groups, usually from three to six children; it depends on the type of disorder and the grade-level of the children.
None of her problem is your fault. Nature just makes these things happen and no cause is ever found.
