Speech Therapy Adult

Gene Said:

Have selective mutism as an adult?

We Answered:

I read this good article on it a while back (see below). According to the article, it's harder to treat as the child gets older but still possible as the therapist can wean the person off their fears etc.

What are some good fund raising events, or strategies? Large or small scale, corporate donations and/or private

We Answered:

I once did a sponsor for children in need and raised £786. what i did was organize a leaf collection {it was leading up to autumn} we collected the leaves in a local park and arranged for S I T A to recycle them for compost they were also one of the sponsors and because of environment issues it made much higher profile which worked in my favor. i also did a raffle MacDonald's were very good as were boots, Tesco and the banks the children used sponsor forms, i also contacted BBC radio papers etc the bigger the better. could the children do a play or how about a sponsored egg roll, a painting competition the possibilities are endless i did find the children were worth their weight in gold..i wish you every success with your project please let me know what you decide on and how you get on.what about mentioning it to Blue Peter when you are closer to finalizing a date.

I had been lisping since I was about 4 , How can it be cured as an adult ?

We Answered:

Why cure it? I think it is cute. There is a lady on tv that does it and an anchorman on a news show that does it. It isnt anything to be ashamed of. Kids are just cruel.
