Speech Therapy - 15 Months Old- Could anyone give advice?

We Answered:

I would have him evaluated now. Evaluations take time, and many therapists have wait lists, so the sooner you start the process the better. And the earlier he starts therapy, the better off he'll do. It took me almost 6 months from the point of calling Early intervention, getting him evaluated, before finally starting the actual therapy.

I'd start by going through your local Early Intervention services. They are free, both the evaluation and the speech therapy. If you go the private speech therapist route, some do take insurance and its usually partially covered. Others do not though, so its definitely a question to ask them. You should also call your insurance to find out if they cover speech therapy or not.

My son was speech delayed.... speech therapy was instrumental in helping him. They also provided me with lessons and tools to work with him at home. One of the best pieces of advice they gave me was for me to talk constantly - as you're going about your day, narrate everything you are doing. Your son will pick up on it.

Good luck!!

Speech Therapy.................?

We Answered:

That depends on what the problem with your speech is (voice, articulation, motor speech, stuttering, breath support, etc.). Speech therapy also varies based on the individual's very specific personality, environment, needs, wants, prognosis, etc. Maybe you should start with going to a Speech Therapist to get a diagnostic and a home program.

You can find one for adults by going to the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA) website's "find a professional" section. Here is the link:

Techniques for helping my daughter (age 4) with speech problems... need book suggestions so I can teach self?

We Answered:

Here is a website that may be of help. http://speechandlanguagevideos.com/artic… It will give you a step by step guide to help your child correct her articulation errors. It's great that you want to help your daughter correct her errors before she starts kindergarten but you may want to consult with a private speech/language pathologist. Check out your local hospital. Most of them will have a pediatric outpatient clinic for therapies. You can also go to the American Speech and Hearing Association's website to find an SLP in your area. http://www.asha.org/findpro/ . You may also e-mail me if you would like additional information. I am also providing additional websites that may be of help. I've shared the following sites with my colleagues and parents in my practice.
http://www.speechtx.com/articulation.htm
http://www.sayitright.org/articulation.h…
http://members.tripod.com/Caroline_Bowen…

The speech sound chart will also provide information as to when a child should have a particular sound (phoneme) intact. http://tweb.lisd.net/melanie_baughman/pd…

Good luck to you.

We Answered:

I kinda had the same issue. But I am not form New York . :(I studdered because I am shy & easy to get nervous.
I don't know what made it stop (it comes back time to time, though), but I was going to take a class for it.
Maybe you can too. OR you can look online for some websites regarding speak improval.
I know you can speak normally...maybe you just thinking TOO hard before you speak.
