Speech Therapy Career

Teresa Said:

Where could i volunteer to gain experience in a career in speech and language therapy?

We Answered:

Many elementary schools have experts in this field to help children work through speech and language issues early. I went to one in 2nd grade for a 'lisp'. Go visit a few local elementary schools, take along a 'resume' (for someone your age, just a basic document with your name, contact information, where you go to school, what you're looking to do, and why), and talk to the administrators. I think you have an excellent idea here.

Example 'resume':

Becky Trecky
becky.trecky@gmail.com
555-555-7676

Education: Currently enrolled as a junior at Mark Markers High School in Jamboree, IL

Objective: I am looking for a volunteer opportunity in ordrer to gain valuable experience in preparation for a career in speech and language therapy. I am committed to this goal, and able to dedicate 2-3 hours each week in its pursuit. I am responsible, trustworthy, and a hard worker.

For reference, please contact my pastor, Righteous McSainty, at 555-555-8787, or my History teacher, Livesin da Past, at 555-555-0909.

Speech Therapy- good career?

We Answered:

I'm a Speech and Language Therapist and it is a really great career and a wonderfully rewarding job. I've been in the NHS for 10 years and still love it. Sign language can be a component if you choose to work with young children or in the area of learning disability or hearing impairment. But there are many avenues you can go down with this career and the training is very wide, giving you an opportunity to try them all out and decide for yourself.

I would definately recommend it as a career choice

Geraldine Said:

Which is better? Nursing degree & career or Speech Therapy MSc & career?

We Answered:

I personally think Speech Therapy as there is a shortage in this field. But gaining both would be a very worthwhile thing to do and will give you "more strings to your bow" so to speak.

Hope this helps and have a great week Hun ;-) x

Gilbert Said:

i just graduated i'm about to start my career in speech therapy, how will the new health care affect me?

We Answered:

it will put a cap on how much you can earn, make your taxes and patient filing extremely complicated and confusing, make it difficult to get paid, and make your patients wait months for basic treatments.

Constance Said:

Is speech pathology/therapy a recession proof career Field?

We Answered:

I am a speech pathologist and I get calls and emails on a WEEKLY basis from people trying to recruit (I already have a job). Today one of my clients came in (I work in private practice) and told me her son doesn't have a speech therapist at school anymore because the old one left and they haven't been able to find a new one.

That's about as recession proof as you can get.

Which is a more profitable and interesting career, speech and language therapy or TEFL/TESOL/EAP?

We Answered:

Normally the speech would pay more.
