In the Michigan area, Speech Therapy in a private setting ranges anywhere from $80-300/hr. It seems that hospital programs are often quite expensive, followed by clinic settings, and private therapists seem to charge the least. Personally, I charge $150 for evaluation and $80/hr for therapy sessions.

Seeking an SLP outside of the schools is always helpful. The schools are only mandated to provide just enough treatment to give the child access to the curriculum. That is how they can justify overloading the clinicians. I agree with you: 30 minutes in a group setting once a week is often not enough to see the optimal progress from a child. However, it may be just enough to meet those requirements, and it may be as much as the clinician can possibly do. At least it's a small group; often groups end up being much larger than two students.

Move to Ireland or Hawaii where everyone pronounces three like tree. That, or practice always trying to emphasis the th. Pretend you are saying "the", as in "the-ree", and "tee-the".

Have you asked the school? Have you checked your state board of ed's site for information about homeschool as the "LRE" (least restrictive environment) for an IEP?

The SD sould still be required to provide ST with an SLP. You may have to get a new IEP written, but it should be available. You are still paying taxes to your SD.

That's interesting that your insurance won't pay for at least part of it. Are they looking at it as an educational thing? Does your child have a set "medical" diagnosis like apraxia or is s/he just "delayed"?

In most locales, the Scottish Rite provides therapy, usually in conjunction with a teaching university. Other resources are Easter Seals (sliding fee) or United Cerebral Palsy. There may be other charities in your area also.

It is quite unrealistic that you will magically develop a good voice in only 6 sessions. Anyone that says you can has obviously never transitioned. It will take a long sustained effort on your part. That's lots of therapy AND practice over a 6 month to 2 year period. Simply because of your age you might manage it in 6 months. But that's only if you're SUPER motivated. Without motivation and desire on your part nothing will happen.

The number of sessions doesn't matter. How hard you work on it does.
