I had a daughter with a horrible lisp and I remedied it at home by doing the following. I got the Leap Frog Fridge Phonics toy. It sticks to your fridge, teaches your child how to say the letter and the letter sounds by using a fun song. I got her Leap Frogs Letter Factory( avaialbe at Target) it reinforces the toy. I stoped allowing her to watch programs where incorrect language or baby talk was used ( Elmo, Barney, and The Wonder Pets are the worst) I'm trying to teach her the right way to say things and they're doing the opposite so they were removed from her TV time options. I got Word flash cards and worked with her once a day. I encourage language anyway I could by having her help me at the market to playing pretend. She is now 4 and is reading and talks fine with the exception of the r sound which is normal.

It could be a number of things. My daughter was seriously speech delayed and this was caused by velo-cardio facial syndrome. However, I doubt it very much in your son's case. What does occur to me, however, because of the lack of eye contact, is Asperger's syndrome, which is similar to autism but not as severe. Other things could include hearing problems, but I assume you've already had that checked out. It could also be something as simple as him being totally preoccupied with other things for most of the time - there could well be absolutely nothing wrong with him. The only thing to do is have him properly evaluated by a paediatrician.

it might be insulting--but than again--she may enjoy watching the babies---there is a video serious called Baby Babble--its to stimulate babies to make sounds...

how does she indicate she knows the pictures--is she able to choose from a large group-

look up augmentative communication/PECS (picture communication)

talk to the speech therapist about a way to communicate NOW-even if its just basic sleep, eat, drink, Tv/Music----this can be done with pictures
