Speech Therapy For Children At Home

Harvey Said:

stay at home mom job ideas?

We Answered:

well..... those ideas are brilliant.i think you have to go forward with it........
if you want an online job i mean the once done thru internet then...... hai... why dont u try it online, i mean online consultant for parents whose children need it....... if you still want to go on with the "typical" online jobs then.....let me 1st warn you.......... there are many home based jobs available on net but the thing is that there are also many spammers among them too. so what u need to do is NEVER PAY ANYONE ANYTHING AT ALL FOR A JOB YOU DO FOR THEM AND NO MATTER HOW TEMPTING THEY MAY SOUND. COZ THEN THEY HAVE A CHANCE TO BE A SCAM.
i do a home job without paying anyone anything atall and earn a satisfactory income too. till date i have got my payments accurately so i believe it is genuine ...... also as far as i have known there is no geographical boundaries for this job anyone anywhere around the globe can do it.for more details on the job please visit the following sites. i hope you find the job you are looking for real soon. all the best!!!

Speech Therapy Questions?

We Answered:

Boy does this bring back some memories! Our oldest daughter was kind of like your son, she could say several words & short sentences untill around two. MaMa, DaDa, bite, dink, Ndit(Bandit, our dog), side(outside), wanna dink, go bye-bye, go side. But around 2, she started pointing & grunting and we still don't know why. Her pediatrition referred us to a speech therapist who helped her so much, actually it was a group of therapists. They used several methods to help her, touch~she would touch their throat/chin or mouth while they said a word~then she would touch the same area on herself as she said/tried the word. They used sign language, pictures, drawing, flash cards & several other things that I have forgotten. Oh I just remembered that they also used a tuning fork like is used to tune pianoes, etc. I don't remember exactly how but all of it together helped her so much. And she really enjoyed it. It was usually one on one, her & the therapist but she did have several sessions with a little boy also. I don't know if all speech therapy helps as much hers did but I would recommend to at least try it. The therapist will tell/teach you several things to do/use at home/stores/traveling/wherever!

She was in therapy for about a year or year & 1/2, I just can't express how much it helped her! She is nearly 20 now & can speak very well. She doesn't talk a lot but it is just because she is a quiet/shy person. If she knows you well, she can talk your ears off!!!
Best wishes & God bless!

Has anyone worked with a child with aspeech impedimate at home?

We Answered:

I have known of two families who had speech therapy for one or more of their children. In both, they had a good relationship with the therapist. The therapist would give them exercises to do at home and explain to the parents how to do them correctly.

If your grandson's therapist told you that he needs to read poetry aloud, then have him do it! One of the kids I knew was supposed to read the Dr Suess book *One Fish, Two Fish* out loud every day for about two weeks to practice rhythm and rhyme. He was in therapy for only a year, so I guess it worked.

18 Month Old in Speech Therapy?

We Answered:

You won't see results overnight. It takes time. In the meantime their advice to you is good. Talk to him, encourage him to talk to you. When you ask him what he wants, don't let him get away with simply pointing and grunting, encourage him to say the word. Encourage him to mimic you, to try the sounds. Lavish praise for his efforts.

They are being productive. I promise you. If you want more specifics, ask specific questions. What did you work on today? Do they not have a room with 1 way glass where you could at least watch without being a distraction? That might would be an idea.

My brother was in speech therapy at 2, and so was my son. The good news is, the earlier you get them help, the better chance they have to catch up.

A friend of the family, waited until their son started school at age 6 to get him help with his speech. As a result, that poor child will never speak correctly. Last I saw him, he was 9, and he spoke as though he were 3. Baddddddd baby talk. Badddd pronunciation. Such a shame. Not his fault. But he'll pay the price for his parent's denial and refusal to get him help in a timely fashion.

Darryl Said:

Parents who have/had children with a speech delay or late talkers....when did you children start talking?

We Answered:

My son had a severe speech delay, very limited vocabulary.

At three he attended school in which a large focus was spent on speech, he also attended speech privately during the summer.

When he was four, during his summer session he made huge strides in speech.

Now you must keep in mind that every child is different. I know some families in which the speech never improved and others who didn't see drastic improvement until six or seven.

Don't give up, don't lose hope. Put him in as much activities as you can (without overloading him or you) in which he's around other children who talk. Possibles - Story time at your local library, Parent-tot preschool programs, playgroups, etc.

The important thing is that you continue speech therapy, you continue reading to him and of course, make it fun. Any word that I exaggerated a lot my son seemed to pick up on immediately, like "Delicious" or "Brilliant". We did a lot of play in encouraging speech, often in the bathtub with bubbles we could blow or shaving cream we could play with, or on the playground.

Good luck and hugs!
