Speech Therapy Homework

Jane Said:

Need help re: speech therapy? Accommodations?

We Answered:

You can request an ARD meeting to discuss further accommodations for your daughter. Let the committee know that the current organizational procedure, i.e. homework agenda, isn't effective, and that you would like a more specific accommodation, e.g. "Detailed homework assignments written in daily homework agenda and verified by teacher," written into your daughter's IEP.

There are no hard and fast rules to writing accommodations for a student's IEP. Each district offers a list of general SpEd accommodations to choose from, but there is nothing preventing you from coming up with your own specific accommodation that would be more suitable/beneficial to your daughter.

Once your kid was entered into special education, have you found that they never get out of it?

We Answered:

I was placed in special education over 35 years ago when I was in school, and I stayed there for each year of high school and it never helped me to get better, and it was more of a waste of time than anything...

I also saw a friend of mine in the last 5 years spend all her time in special education, and it didn't help her either...
She still can't spell correctly...

Darlene Said:

Is it posiable that both of my daughters have a learning disability?

We Answered:

your child can be evaluated over the summer, voice that option to your district. if she is indeed eligible, most of your planning will be for the upcoming year.

as for the second child, was there formal testing?
