Speech Therapy Ideas

Katherine Said:

I'm having trouble starting a speech about sports physical therapy... Any ideas???

We Answered:

I always found the most interesting way to start a speach is with a captivating example. In your case, maybe put yourself in the mindset of an athlete who has just been injured on the field. You're in pain, you're scared, will you ever play again? What's next?

Then transition into your topic...

You realize that it won't be easy, but with the help of a good therapist, you'll be back in the game.

You'll have to flush out the details, but if you tell it like a good story, you'll have your audience eating out of your hand. But remember, you have to sell it... make them all feel the person's pain.

Good luck!
hope this helps...

Speech therapy for a 10 year old? Any ideas?

We Answered:

It depends if you are in the United States. If so, she needs to be evaluated by the school. The parents must demand and evaluation.

Any ideas to help my daughter improve her speech?

We Answered:

I agree with the first part of what Jade645 said. It would be difficult to give you any tips on your child's development, just based on a written description. A trained therapist should listen to her first before providing in depth suggestions.

The speech therapist can provide fun activities for you to do and you can try out therapy to see if you like it. The home programming is really key and parents are very involved with speech therapy for young children. This is called Early Intervention/Birth to three. There are different coordinating agencies in different states that can help you find an Early Intervention (EI) Speech Language Pathologist (SLP).

I am not sure what state you are in, but in Illinois (where I am) the organization is called "Child and Family Connections." Here is their website:
http://www.childandfamilyconnections.org…
If you are not in Illinois, you could probably still contact them to find the name of the agency for your state.

You can also try going to the ASHA (American Speech Language Hearing Association) website's "find a professional" section. Here is the link:
http://www.asha.org/findpro/

Here is a website that provides some information on EI:

I would like to mention though, that I do not agree that waiting is the best policy. EARLY intervention is very important because speech difficulties can adversely affect other areas of learning. You can always talk to a therapist and try out therapy for a little while and then decide if you want to continue with it or not, but I think it is definitely worth looking into.
Best of luck

What inexpensive ideas to market my new speech therapy clinic can you help me with?

We Answered:

How about placing bulletins at area Schools, Sports Clubs/Gyms, libraries, nursing homes, book stores? Be present at non for profit fund raisers to pass out business cards (special olympics, united way, dream factory etc.,) Inquire with homes associations to advertise in New Letters (usually quite cheap). Hypnosis centers.
Where ever you choose be sure to have "testimonials" of the success of your work!

Good luck!
