Speech Therapy Lisp
Adrian Said:
can speech therapy correct a lisp?We Answered:
Hey Bro-If you contact a Speech Therapist they will help you out on the lisp.
Lisps are not hard to fix, actually many people from other countries go to Speech therapy to get rid of their accent, if they have that kind of money of course.
And its good that you are not ashamed of your personal well-being.
I support that, and don't forget.. You are you.
Speech Therapy is the best.
But be more confident!
Good Luck Man.
Peace.

How do I get rid of a lisp without speech therapy? We Answered:
The "s" and the "th" differ in only one aspect, and that is the placement of the tip of the tongue. Fortunately, it's very easy to fix.Th "th" is produced with the tongue between the teeth, and the "s" is directly behind the top teeth.
Practice a bit in the mirror so you can see the placement of the tongue. Use single-syllable words which contrast the two sounds until you train your ear. Example-- "this" and "sis" for the unvoiced versions, and "that" with "zat". The tongue's position doesn't change.
Gradually work with words of varying length, more target sounds per word in different places in the word, then to phrases, then to sentences. Before you know it, you won't have any more difficulty.

How do you get rid of a lisp without speech therapy? We Answered:
When saying either vocalized (THis) or non- vocalized th (THink), the tongue should be slightly BETWEEN the front teeth. When saying s or z, the tongue's position is behind the top teeth with the airstream going forward.Clenching your teeth together is a way to learn improper technique, thus making your problem worse. I don't recommend it.
Using a mirror so you can see your tongue's position, work on both th sounds.
Once you get both th sounds, pull your tongue back, but keep the same position (with the exception of the tongue's relative position to the teeth, of course.) Sometimes it's easier to go from the voiced th (THis) to the z.
If you can already produce a z without any sound distortion, start there, move to the s, then both th sounds.

how can i cure my lisp with out speech therapy? We Answered:
Good for you for wanting to improve your speech! How old are you? If you are school age you should be able to receive services there for free. As students get older, they typically are tired of working on speech sounds and may be dismissed from therapy, so if you approach your teacher or school speech therapist, be sure to let them know that you are bothered by your 's' sounds and let them know that you are willing to put forth the effort to improve it because it's not something that will happen overnight. I would highly recommend this option! Also, if you have any colleges in your area with speech therapy programs, many of them offer free services from the students. You might want to check into that!If you do not want to go the school therapist route and want to try yourself, you first need to determine what kind of lisp you have. Is your tongue coming out between the front of your teeth when you say 's' (fronal lisp) or is the air coming out the sides of your teeth (lateral lisp)?
If your tongue is coming through the front of your teeth practice closing your teeth all the way (look in a mirror to be sure) and practice the 's' sound in isolation. Once it sounds/looks a little better try easy words that have 's' in them then try some sentences. Start out slow and try to say tham faster as you feel more comfortable. Try reading books out loud to yourself using the new correct placement. It is something that you will have to think about for a while, but if you practice long enough it will become more natural.
If you have a lateral lisp (air coming out the sides), try mushing some chewing gum between your molars so the air is forced out the front of your mouth. If that doesn't work try putting a straw between the front of your teeth and make the 's' with the air flowing out of the straw. If that doesn't work try making a 't' sound immediately followed by an 's'...it gets the air started flowing in the right direction. Once you achieve proper production, build up as you did before, words, sentences, reading, etc.
Hope this helps, if not feel free to e-mail me with any problems or concerns!

How Can You Get Rid of a Lisp without speech therapy? We Answered:
There are plenty of books and DVD how-to videos on speech therapy. Try the library or a large chain bookstore. I would especially look for the videos. I bet they have some of the DVDs on a site like Amazon.com, which has everything!Leroy Said:
Can a Lisp be helped in later years with speech therapy? We Answered:
I have a Bachelors in speech therapy (which is not enough to practice so this is just advice from a stranger). We never specifically talked about lisps, but with the right therapist almost any kind of speech problem can be HELPED. That might mean it is still there, but not as strong. It is possible he could be "cured" of it, depending on why he has a lisp.Ralph Said:
