i seriously dunno wat 2 do wid ma lyf...plz help me out....?We Answered:
Maybe if you're interested in entertainment, you can always try independent film. Other than that, maybe you might want to improve your typing/communication ability and take a course on that. Honestly, I really couldn't understand the vast majority of what you were saying.David Said:
My 3yr old girl has a speech delay. Any advice / stories you like to share with me please? We Answered:
I know you didn't ask to here from a speech therapist but I work with preschoolers as a speech therapist and I just wanted to encourage you and tell you that it is so wonderful that she has made so much progress!!! That should be very encouraging. I would use music to help her learn even more and hope that your speech therapist is doing so... When giving her directions make it into a little song... When asking her to repeat a 2 word phrase put some melody and inflection in your voice... dont worry about her talking sing-songy you can work that out later if it happens but it seems to be a strength for her and I would go with that!!! I also think preschool is wonderful for her. Peer models are some of the most influential! You are doing all the right things!

do you need your tofel when you have a 1050 gre score for an international student? We Answered:
If the uni is asking u for ur TOEFL score then u must submit it.... If u cant do it before the dead line they'll be able to extend the deadline only if the rest of ur appln file is impressive.or
The uni will ask u take an english language test on reaching the uni.
It wont effect ur visa at all.

13 month old daughter getting re-evaluated by speech therapist for delay - worried, help?We Answered:
I am a big big advocate of early intervention. I have 3 sons, all got early intervention. My oldest started at 25 months, middle son at 2 months, and 3rd son at 8 months. All had receptive language delays, and I can tell you with early intervention that gap closes significantly, but widens if you wait till after 3 years, that is why the 0-3 is so important. My oldest still has delays, he is in regular 1st grade on grade level, my middle and youngest have caught up so much. There is great hope, she has great skills and if they want to give her free therapy take it, it will only benefit her and does no harm. If she doesn't qualify, have them keep re-evaluating to get her in. If she needs it and you choose not to get it she could be paying for it all her life. I'd be jumping up and down to get it.
My youngest is in the free preschool at Easter Seals, he is 22 months. People always say he is so advanced, and I am like yeah, he's in the delayed pre-school. He looks soo soo good and can't do many things your daughter is doing now and he is much older.
The pointing that is early (14 month skill) and that is GREAT, pointing is a pre-cursor to speech, and pre-conversation skills. My youngest, my earliest pointer began this at 18 months.
My kids all had gross motor delays too, and with PT walked at 13 and 14 months, they would not have without intervention. The brain is so pliable, take advantage of it, those connections can and will be made.
My 3 year old at one point his language delay was 70 percent, now its 20 and this is in less than a year.
She is in great shape and will only be in greater shape with intervention, without it who knows but I feel so guilty for my oldest, he may have lifelong reprucssions from my waiting so late.
My other 2 will not be struggling in 1st grade, or kindergarten or pre-k for that matter and its from the EI for sure. I agree milestones have little to do with intelligence, many gifted kids are ones that had 'delayed milestones'
The best piece of advice from a mom who has been there is to do all the intervention you can and the worst thing you could do is ignore it and be in denial.
No I don't think you should be really worried, I'd be ecstatic if my kids did that much at her age. The prognosis for my 2 youngest is that they will both be discharged from services between ages 3-4, 3 most likely for my 'typical' one, and 4 for my middle. They both have already dropped PT and OT, my oldest still gets OT.
My youngest gets ECE, and speech. Oldest gets speech too, maximum amount. The neurology paperwork says prognosis very good for my youngest, good for my middle, and guarded for my oldest upgraded from poor, never very poor though.

My son is 23 months has has little or no speech.?We Answered:
Is he the youngest of several children? I ask because it might be that he has older siblings that anticipate his every need so he doesn't have to bother. The same thing can happen with parents so it might be an idea to ask whether you should make him work harder to communicate eg don't give him a biscuit until he's said biccy. You could also ask about hearing tests, and ask about any games you can play with him that will help his speech.
