Wow, this pediatrician has been a disappointment from the start. He clearly isn't taking anything seriously and looking into things the way he should. I think you should have given this pediatrican the boot long ago! I'm not sure why you need a referral (insurance reasons?) but, otherwise, you don't need one for him to get a second opinion. Just call the Dr.s office and ask to make an appointment for your son to get a second opinion from a different pediatrician (anyone different will be fine). If in the process you meet more Dr.s that disappoint you, drop them and move on to another Dr. right away. It does sound a lot like Cerbral Palsy, and it sounds like that's what the Dr. expects as well. I wouldn't wait any longer, you and your son have waited long enough. Take him in and have him evaluated right away, so he can get treatment, and you can get some answers. The difficulty swallowing, and poor motor skills are symptoms. The "fits" he had as a baby sounds like seizures which are a symptom as well. The good news is that therapy can help him, if that's it. Good luck.

It could be an oral motor delay. The reason speech and eating habits are related is because they both involve muscles around the mouth. If the muscles are under developed it would affect speech and eating. There are therapists who dual specialize in speech-language pathology and orofacial myofunctional therapy. The therapy helps to develop increased range of movement, precision, rate, muscle tone, stabilization, and strength of oral structures needed for speech and feeding and decrease poor control of food while eating, and enhance breath support for adequate respiration, phonation, and resonation required for speech skills. Your pediatrician may be able to recommend somebody if this is the case.

The products you "take" yourself are not deductible, since they are personal in nature. The rationale is the same for your suits and personal appearance. You need to have nice clothes and have your hair cut etc for your speaking engagements, but they aren't deductible either. You could wear that suit for something other than a speaking engagement. The supplements help you in other areas of your life, not just your professional one. However, you can deduct any supplements you use as samples or displays, that are not available for sale. If you have pills that are available for sale (inventory) they are deducted when sold.
