Speech Therapy Salary

Louise Said:

Speech and Language Therapy or Occupational Therapy?

We Answered:

Neither is "easy".
That said, it's about your personal interests.
Go to asha.org and aota.org to compare and contrast the two.
Check out salary.com for rates in your area.

Antonio Said:

Speech Pathology vs. Occupational Therapy Programs?

We Answered:

If you are set on working in a hospital, OT is probably a better field to go into but with Speech Pathology one has the option of working in the school system with exceptional retirement benefits and summers off with pay... quite the bonus. My undergraduate degree is in Speech Pathology, and I find the work rewarding - especially if you have any interest in the deaf or hearing impaired community or dysphagia, stroke, or neurology.

Speech Therapists!?

We Answered:

I've been a speech therapist for about 5 years and I enjoy it very much. There generally is a high demand but this, as well as salary, depends on where you live. Entry level is a Master's Degree...I was in school for 6 years all together. Check out the American Speech-Language Hearing Association's website (www.asha.org) for additional info. This is the association that certifies Speech-Language Pathologists. Good luck!
