Speech Therapy Songs

My 2 yr. old doesn't talk! Dr. says Speech Therapy!?

We Answered:

As a speech therapist, I do agree with your physician's opinion. Typically, by 24 months, a child should have an expressive vocabulary of 40-50 words. I haven't assessed your child, but an SLP will probably do a language/phonetic assessment to see what his strengths and weaknesses are. If your child is deem to be at least 25% delayed in his speech, he may receive services once a week. I work with this population and typically after a couple months of therapy, the child is D/C as they no longer require assistance and can formulate words and phrases on their own. Reconsidering this whole speech therapy thing?

We Answered:

I would. Sometimes someone hearing them fresh - versus you or even daycare - can pick out things that you are so used to hearing, you do not notice.

Speech Impediment...help?

We Answered:

See a speech language pathologist, they specialize in this and will do certain speech exercises with you to correct your impediment. The letter "r" is a retroflex liquid phoneme and is difficult for some if it was not learned properly as you developed. They will work with you, evaluate, diagnose, and treat and you don't sound severe so it shouldn't take too long.

Speech Therapy NYC?

We Answered:

need clarification. Speech therapy is for people with communication disorders. I am not sure what songs would have to do with speech therapy.

My four year old has a speech delay how can I help him?

We Answered:

your child sounds EXACTLY like my 3.5 year old. I was told to give my son options and only give whatever to him when he says what he wants. It can even be something crazy like "do you want this shoe for lunch, or that turkey sandwhich" that way he has to use words to get what he wants or needs. Also, if he isn't good with manners, don't give into him until he says please, thank you, you're welcome, etc. Luckily my son uses all those, but that is something I had read when trying to do research.

My son's doctor thinks he has Aspergers syndrome, but when he was evaluated by the school district this past Friday, apparently he doesn't even have a speech delay (anyone who has been around my son can easily tell). It was the last day before the summer, so my doctor thinks they were just trying to rush me out so that they could leave and is getting a second opinion.

If you need someone to talk to, shoot me an email. I completely understand everything you're going through!!
