Master in Speech-therapy?

We Answered:

In the US you will need to apply and get accepted to a graduate program in Speech Language Pathology or Communication Disorders. Since you don't have a bachelor's degree in Speech Pathology or Communication Disorders you may have to take pre- requisite before you are accepted into a graduate program or before you begin any core courses. The graduate program takes about two years to complete. You will have to complete course work as well as clinical practicum at different settings that Speech Language Pathologist work like a school, hospital, nursing home, or rehab outpatient clinic. After you complete all coursework and have earned 400 clinical practicum hours. You complete your graduate program. Before you can become certified by the American Speech and Hearing Association(ASHA). You must obtain a license for the state that you want to work in and complete a nine month clinical fellowship year (CFY) where you will be supervised by a member who already holds ASHA CCC's. Once you complete the CFY you apply for full state and ASHA license and you are a certified Speech Language Pathologist. I know it seems like a lot but trust me it's worth it, if you know this is the field you want to work in.

Deborah Said:

I have a UK BSc in Speech Therapy and a Masters in Geriatric Health..will I qualify for EB2 catagory?

We Answered:

your employer can file eb2 petition only if a master degree is one of the job requirements for the position, and that requirement is stated on the job description of your Labor certificate. eb2 and eb3 categories do not depend on what you possess. it only depends on the job requirement of the position. you are eligible for eb2 petition if the job description states minimum requirement is master degree or equivalent.
I hope my explanation helps. good luck.

Teaching, Social Work or Speech and Language Therapy? (UK)?

We Answered:

Im sorry, but the way you describe yourself does not encourage a career in teaching, social work or SLT. I have a child who has minor learning delays so Ive dealt with special ed and all that you mention for the last 10 years. There will never be a time when there will NOT be a child/person who is a discipline problem. These kids require an immense amount of patience and understanding. I know it sounds great to want to get into these fields but I would suggest you do some very in depth research regarding each field and not only the requirements but all that is expected...and unexpected.
I wish you much luck.
