Speech Therapy Words
Reginald Said:
my son is 22 months old he says 30 words he goes to speech therapy once a week?We Answered:
My daughter went to her 18 month check up and the doctor told me that she was suppose to know at least 50 words. She doesn't know that many. Before she could walk, she was putting two words together which was great for her age. She was picking up words so much, but ever since she started walking, it seemed like she put learning new words aside, and learned to explore. After she had walking down, she started saying some words, but they are now unclear, but they somewhat sound like the word ("who is it" would sound like "Do dee dit") She mostly whines or screams for something. The doctor recommended practicing flash cards everyday and if she's not picking them up fast enough, to come back to the doctor's office. I think some kids pick up faster than others, but it's hard to ignore it because of things like autism now adays. Not to scare you, just sharing my own concern for her. I felt bad because a little boy her age was saying things like "mustang". If they said you're son did not qualify, I wouldn't worry, he'll probably pick up words a little later.Stanley Said:
Speech Therapy?We Answered:
I'm sorry, but that's like telling you how to be a physician using a website. Speech Therapists have such specific skills that they must get a Master's degree in order to be licensed. There may be physiological, cognitive, or social reason for her difficulties that must be diagnosed first, and then accorded the proper treatment. No one can teach you that, without you getting a degree in Speech Therapy yourself. Have you talked to your school about the child's trouble? If she's home schooled, you should be able to go to a children's hospital for an evaluation. Some speech therapists are also licensed to work privately. You can see them in the phone book. Please trust this important work to a professional.
